The Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari has her eyes set on the 2018 Winter Olympic games. She aims to be the first from the UAE to ever compete in the Winter games and also prove to the world that a Muslim Hijabi can skate just as well as any other professional figure skater, if not better. Dubbed as the “Ice Princess in Hijab” by the media, Zahra explains in an interview with Arabian Business what this sport means to her: ” I really love it when I have been working for months and months trying to land a new jump and then suddenly one day I get it…I know that I will eventually stop competitive skating but I really don’t see myself giving up on the sport completely. There are a lot of new and upcoming UAE national skaters and I would love to have the opportunity to help them reach their own goals and for this beautiful sport to continue to grow in the UAE”.
