Palestine #Barakability Art & Photography The Arts 17 Smiles by Valentina Primo 08/12/2014 Last year, 12-year-old artist Mohammad Quraiqe made headlines as “Gaza’s little Picasso” and transformed the way the world was seeing Gaza. Barakabits visited his studio in Palestine and watched him tour across Tunisia , where he was invited to exhibit his work. Now 13 years old, the young painter sets out to break a Guinness World record for the highest number of portraits drawn over one week , according to Electronic Intifada.
Mohammad, called by his clients “Abu Dahka Jnan” (the one with the most cheerful smile), is famous for his vivid portraits and the astounding techniques he constantly explores, such as drawing negative. Having illustrated prominent icons and leaders such as Yasser Arafat and the president of Tunisia, who personally invited him to draw his portrait, Mohammad is followed by over 50,000 fans , whom admire his talent and perseverance in a land where chances do not abound.
