Lost Children Found By A School On Wheels

Yemen #Barakability Classroom 2.0 Education 103 Smiles by Inji Hassan 4 months ago Children victimized by discrimination are now thriving thanks to an unorthodox mobile school. Marginalized children in Yemen were routinely treated in a way that bred in them a profound sense of inferiority , as they were forced to bear insults and attacks from members of the upper classes , especially at school. As a result, some of them have never been to school , while many of those who did eventually dropped out.

To put them back on track, Nazar Saqqaf came up with an inventive way to reach them: a school in a bus. After witnessing a clash targeting a marginalized kid, Nazar decided to do something for his peers. He started by bringing them coloring books and pencils to see what their reaction would be.

Encouraged by the results , five months ago he launched his mobile school , which has gradually earned the trust of more and more pupils. Nazar and three other volunteers, Hany Hael, Abdel Rahman Al-Sahmany and Ebtehal Al-Marfady, work with kids twice a week. The children’s performance has been amazing, with volunteers succeeding in teaching 20 kids so far to read and write.

Nazar now hopes to develop the initiative further and plans to build schools for more kids that had been deprived of an education.
