England Celebrates Palestine Cinema at the London Palestine Film Festival

Palestine The Arts TV, Film & Online Video 9 Smiles LPFF14 Trailer from Palestine Film Foundation on Vimeo. by Valentina Primo 03/12/2014 Opening with Najwa Najjar’s Oscar nominated Eyes of a Thief, the annual London Palestine Film Festival kicked off last November 28, presenting two weeks of Palestine’s latest releases, selected archive screenings, and discussion panels. The event also includes a panel on “Palestine on UK TV, Historic Reflections” and a lecture on “The Architecture of Violence” with Eyal Weizman.

Among the highlights, Mais Darwazah’s 2013 documentary My Love Awaits Me by the Sea , which was recently awarded in Portugal and Argentina, and the Suspended Time , a compilation of shorts in which Palestinian filmmakers reflect on the twentieth anniversary of the 1993 Oslo accords. The festival also features archive screenings, such as Soviet documentary The Middle East: Pain, Anxiety, Hope , and The Palestinians (1988), a survey of Palestine’s modern history.
