The Ramadan Aman ‘Safe Ramadan’ campaign , one of the initiatives launched by Al-Ihsan Charity Association in the United Arab Emirates, is back for its 5th year. At Maghreb (sunset) time, the volunteers hand out Iftar meals to drivers on UAE’s roads and at traffic intersections to break their 15-hour fast. This campaign was initiated in response to the increased number of car accidents during Ramadan rush hour, as drivers tend to speed before Maghreb prayer to arrive in time for Iftar.  Not only does this campaign cultivate the culture of volunteering and giving back to the community, it also is a creative way of raising awareness about traffic and road safety during Ramadan.

Two days ago, drivers in Dubai got an unexpected surprise from Her Highness Shamma bint Sohail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, as she was one of the volunteers distributing meals. How cool is that! While Ramadan is a month of charity, family, and spiritual reflection, this campaign reminds us how important it is to give back to our society and stay safe on the road.
