There are tons of ways to help those in need. Some kind souls actually go out of their way to use every bit of their skills and abilities to help out. In Turkey, Syrian nurse, Abdullah Abu Khalid, takes care of wounded Syrian refugees. Like him, many Syrian refugees fled from the civil war to Turkey’s Southern province, Hatay’s district of Reyhanli, near the Syrian border.

Nearly two years ago, Abu Khalid left Syria because of the war and lack of medical equipment. Now, he voluntarily visits wounded and sick people with his motorbike and he also supports refugees with psychological support and prayer.

With whatever supplies he can get, Abu Khalid drives through the city on his motorbike in order to arrive as soon as possible to help the refugees. Sometimes, he nurses over 100 people a day!

Abu Khalid worked as a nurse in Syria for over 12 years and he wasn’t about to leave the country and leave his skill in helping behind him as well.

Abu Khalid’s kind heart and intentions go a long way for people who can only hope for such help after what they’ve been through. He enjoys the smiles he sees from his patients and considers it a form of gratification.

I was born in Palestine but raised with the fireflies in Georgia. My teenage years were spent being the Muslim nerd who was known as the bookworm of the school. That followed me back to Palestine, to develop into being the girl with the big vocabulary. I spent most of my high-school days cursing Newton for not eating that apple. My English Literature Bachelor's degree was only obtained because I'm a nerd for literature and my minor in Translation pretty much pays the bills, thank you Birzeit University.Creative writing is my passion and reading is my escape from reality into a world where everything is the way you imagine it to be.
